Canada international Jayden Nelson has completed a transfer to Bolton Wanderers. The winger moves from Austin FC in a deal understood to be worth around $1 million.
The reported fee for the 23-year-old is $1 million. Bolton met the valuation set by the MLS club after Nelson expressed a desire to move to a European side.
In 13 appearances for Austin this season, Nelson scored two goals. His previous MLS experience includes 23 games for the Vancouver Whitecaps, where he contributed two goals and five assists. He began his professional career with Toronto FC II before making a total of 38 first-team appearances across MLS.
Nelson was a late addition to Canada's squad for the World Cup, replacing the injured Marcelo Flores. He earned three minutes of playing time during Canada's Round of 16 defeat to Morocco. His move to England's third tier represents a significant step in his career development. The club has not yet confirmed his squad number or contract length.
