Canada Motivated To Beat USA
The Canadian national development team is gearing up for a crucial series against the United States after experiencing a difficult 2025-26 season. The team, comprising of 80 players from the U-18 and university levels, convened at their Summer Showcase in Richmond, British Columbia, to vie for roster spots.
Ève Gascon, Canada's top netminding prospect, is among those who have faced significant defeats against USA. She and her teammates are keen on reversing this trend. "I think every time we come to a camp, we gain experience and the chance to be with the best every camp," Gascon said. "It’s always super fun to get the experience and to have the knowledge of the coaches as well."
Reversing the Tides
Gascon and her Canadian teammates are determined to prove their worth against USA's Collegiate Select team, which has dominated Canada's National Development team in recent years. The sentiment among players is clear: they want to change the narrative that has seen them fall short against USA.
"We're all really excited to play against the US and we all know the results from the past year too," Gascon added. "So I think that’s motivation to just beat them and not let them have any chance, that's something we’re really excited about."
The team will face USA in a series designed to assess their readiness for upcoming competitions and to secure spots on senior teams. With the 2027 PWHL Draft and Canada's Senior National team roster in mind, these players are focused on demonstrating their skills and potential.
