Canada will play its first matches since the World Cup with friendlies against Chile and Peru in September, the national team announced Monday. The matches mark Canada's return to action after reaching the Round of 16 for the first time in history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
When and where will Canada play?
Canada faces Chile at BMO Field in Toronto on September 26, followed by a match against Peru at Stade Saputo in Montreal on October 3. Both games fall within the September-October FIFA international window. Tickets go on sale to the public on July 31 after presales for CanadaRED members.
Why these matches matter
Head coach Jesse Marsch called the friendlies an opportunity to thank fans for their support during the World Cup. "The momentum we've created for this sport in the country over the past few months has been incredible," Marsch said. "We couldn't have done it without our fans."
Canada's last result was a 0-3 loss to Morocco on July 4, but the team still finished with a 2W-1D-2L record in its last five matches. The friendlies will also serve as a chance to welcome back injured stars like Alphonso Davies, who missed most of the World Cup with a hamstring injury.
What to expect from Chile and Peru
Both opponents are ranked in FIFA's top 50, with Chile at 49th and Peru at 41st. Canada currently sits at 30th in the world rankings. The matches will be a test for Canada as it looks to build on its World Cup success.
The team will be without Ismaël Koné, who suffered a broken leg during the World Cup and won't return before the fall international window. Alphonso Jones is also sidelined with an injury.
